The upper intertidal zone
Observations The upper intertidal zone is exposed at low tide.
Explanations The upper intertidal zone is exposed most of the time and will become submerged only during high tide. This zone is least abundant of the intertidal zones but contains some mollusks, barnacles, and other animals adapted to avoid drying out.
